Meet Mike Patterson
Mike Patterson is a dedicated law enforcement professional with more than 29 years of service, built on integrity, experience, and a deep commitment to the communities he has sworn to protect.
Mike’s career began in 1992 with the Plymouth Police Department, where he first answered the call to serve Washington County. Over the years, he has gained experience across multiple agencies and roles, always stepping up when leadership was needed. In 2016, Mike joined the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, where he was quickly promoted to Sergeant in charge of a shift, reflecting the trust placed in him by his peers and supervisors.
In 2020, Mike continued his service with the Edenton Police Department, where he returned to a leadership role as a Patrol Sergeant in December 2023 and later served as an Investigator. In 2025, Mike made the decision to step away from that role to focus fully on running for Washington County Sheriff—a decision rooted in his belief that the county deserves experienced, steady, and proven leadership.
Throughout his career, Mike has earned numerous certifications and has served on multiple task forces, giving him a well-rounded understanding of modern law enforcement, investigations, and community safety.
Beyond the badge, Mike is a father of two. His son, soon to be 22, proudly followed in his footsteps and now serves as a Police Officer with the Ahoskie Police Department. His daughter, who will turn 14 in March, attends school in Elizabeth City and lives with her mother in Edenton. Mike is also rarely seen without his loyal sidekick, Croc, his small dog who insists on riding along whenever possible.
Mike Patterson isn’t just running for Sheriff—he’s continuing a lifelong mission of service, leadership, and protecting the people of Washington County.
Experience. Integrity. Commitment.
